If you’ve ever done an IVAR cabinet hack, you know the result can look beautiful. You also know that getting that clean, finished look can take a bit of extra work.
Our fluted IKEA IVAR panels are designed to upgrade IKEA IVAR cabinets with a more refined, custom feel. The look of the fluted cabinet doors stays the same, but the construction has been simplified. The panels now come as a ready to use pair, sized specifically for IVAR, which means fewer parts to work with and a smoother installation from start to finish.

Previously, each IVAR door required three separate panels that had to be aligned carefully to create a continuous fluted surface. It worked well, but it demanded precision and patience to achieve a seamless result.
Now, each door is covered with one single panel, pre sized for IKEA IVAR. The fluted surface is already continuous, removing the need to combine pieces or adjust seams.
Same look. Simpler construction.
With fewer pieces comes a more straightforward installation. There is less measuring and less risk of small gaps, since each panel is designed to match IVAR proportions from the start.
The updated material is lighter and more flexible, making the panels easier to handle and press into place. The process feels smoother and more forgiving, while the final result stays just as clean and modern.
The updated IKEA IVAR panels are designed to be easy to install. You don’t need to measure or align multiple pieces. Just prepare, attach and let them dry.
These are the basics you’ll need to attach the panels:
Fine grit sandpaper to lightly sand the surface
Wood glue or a strong adhesive
A clean cloth to wipe away excess glue
To make the process smoother, you may also want:
Clamps to hold the panel firmly in place while drying
Heavy books or flat weights if you don’t have clamps
If you plan to paint or customise your IVAR cabinet, you may also use:
Primer
Paint
A brush or roller
A protective top coat for extra durability
A little preparation makes your IVAR cabinet upgrade easier and more durable. It can also be helpful to plan the final look ahead of time, including the colour you want to paint the cabinet and whether you’d like to add legs for IKEA IVAR cabinets, knobs or handles as part of the makeover.
If possible, remove the cabinet doors and place them on a flat surface. Lightly sand the front, especially if it has old paint or a glossy finish, so the adhesive can bond properly. Once sanded, wipe the surface carefully to remove all dust. The surface should be clean, dry and free from grease before attaching the panels.
A few extra minutes here will noticeably improve the final result.
Skipping surface preparation
Adhesive bonds best to a lightly sanded and clean surface, particularly on painted or glossy IVAR doors.
Using too little glue
Apply an even layer to ensure proper adhesion and long term durability.
Repositioning after placement
Align the panel carefully from the start. Adjusting it once the adhesive begins to set can affect the finish.
Painting too soon
Allow the adhesive to cure fully before moving on to priming or painting.
You can attach the panels while the doors are still mounted, but removing them makes the process easier since you can work on a flat surface. Lightly sand the front to smooth out uneven areas and help the adhesive grip properly. If there are small cracks or dents, apply wood filler, let it dry, and sand again until smooth.
Wipe away all sanding dust so the surface is completely clean and dry. A dust free base ensures better adhesion and a more durable IVAR cabinet transformation.
Place the fluted panels against the cabinet to check alignment before applying glue. Make sure they sit straight and centered.
Spread an even layer of wood glue or construction adhesive on the back of the panel. Press it firmly onto the cabinet and apply pressure across the entire surface. Clamps or heavy books can help keep it flat while drying.
Allow the adhesive to dry for several hours. If possible, leave it longer for a stronger bond. Always follow the curing time stated on your adhesive.
Once the panels are fully set, apply a primer. Two coats usually create the best base. Let each coat dry completely before adding the next.
Use furniture paint in your chosen colour. For the most even finish, allow it to dry overnight before sealing. If you want a more detailed guide, you can also follow our step-by-step guide on how to paint IKEA furniture.
Apply a protective top coat to make the surface more resistant to everyday use, especially in high traffic areas.

Once everything is fully dry, reattach the doors and finish your IKEA IVAR hack with legs and knobs that match your style. Small details elevate the entire cabinet and turn simple storage into something more personal and considered.
In this makeover, we used Hugo 145 Matt Black legs, but you can browse our recommended legs for IKEA IVAR cabinets to find a style that suits your space.
Let the glue cure fully before priming or painting. Extra time improves durability. Always follow the instructions on your adhesive.
Allow proper drying time between coats. Primer and paint need time to set before the next layer.
Avoid handling too soon. Let the final coat dry overnight before reattaching doors or adding hardware.
Seal with a top coat if the cabinet will be used frequently. It protects the surface and keeps the finish looking fresh.
A little patience goes a long way.
Whether you’re planning a simple IVAR cabinet hack or a full cabinet makeover, our fluted IKEA IVAR panels are designed to make the process easier and the result more refined.

Can I install the panels without removing the doors?
Yes, but removing the doors and working on a flat surface usually makes installation easier and more precise.
Can I paint the panels in any colour?
Yes. After priming, you can paint them in your preferred colour. A protective top coat is recommended for durability.
Can the panels be used for other furniture or projects?
Yes. Although designed for IKEA IVAR cabinets, the panels can also be used on other flat surfaces such as custom storage, headboards or built in solutions. They can be cut to size if needed, which makes them adaptable for more personal projects.
Can I remove the panels later if I change my mind?
Yes, the panels can be removed if needed. Since they are attached with adhesive, you may notice some glue residue or slight impact on the surface underneath. To remove them more gently, warm the panel slightly with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive, then carefully loosen it using a thin, flat tool. Any remaining residue can usually be sanded or cleaned away before refinishing the surface.
